Frequently Asked Questions

The Omaha Children's Choir is open to all children in 1st-8th grade who love to sing. Vocal assessments are currently being scheduled by appointment. School teachers may recommend students or parents may contact the artistic director to schedule a vocal assessment appointment. All students are encouraged to remain active participants in their school and church music programs.

Do prospective choristers need a teacher recommendation?

Teacher recommendations are encouraged, but not required for a student to join the Omaha Children's Choir. School choral teachers are asked to submit recommendation forms for interested students or you may contact us on your own to schedule a vocal assessment appointment.

How much does it cost to join the Omaha Children's Choir?

The Omaha Children's Choir is a tuition-based program. However, no child will be excluded from participation due to financial reasons. Tuition is on a sliding scale, based on income. While OCC tuition is on a sliding scale, the actual per student cost of the program is approximately $500.

Cost for the 2017-2018 season is as follows:

Household Income                     Yearly Tuition
< $25,000                                      $100
$25,001-$40,000                         $200
$40,001-$80,000                         $300
> $80,000                                      $400

There is a non-refundable $25 registration fee due with all registration forms to secure each child's spot in the program. The registration fee is applied toward each student's season tuition. A 20% sibling discount is offered for the second, third, etc., child in the OCC program.

How do parents schedule a vocal assessment?

Vocal assessments are scheduled after registration is complete. Or you may email amanda@omahachildrenschoir.org to schedule one before registering your child!

What happens at the vocal assessment?

You will meet the Artistic Director. You will be asked to talk about your schooling and musical experience. You will listen to and be asked to repeat some rhythmic and musical phrases, sing a simple song (such as "Happy Birthday" or "My Country 'Tis of Thee") and answer a few questions about music.

No musical experience is required to join Omaha Children's Choir!

How should my child prepare for the vocal assessment?

No special preparation is necessary for the vocal assessment. It is suggested that you simply get a good night’s rest the night before and not eat or drink any dairy products for several hours before your vocal assessment.
